Spies In Disguise. Prime Video. 8/10
I don't enjoy kids movies. I find them to be repetitive, unfunny, and lack all artistic effort in order to appeal to a mass group of parents and children. That being said I have three siblings under the age of 13 so avoiding them altogether is not necessarily in my itinerary anytime soon. I did, however, find myself stunned when halfway passed the first act I was wide awake and entirely engaged. This film was sensational. I found myself feeding into a clutter of laughter with the rest of my family, jokes that we could all understand and enjoy together. The voice acting in the movie was fantastic Will Smith, Rachel Brosnahan, Tom Holland, and Rashida Jones all come together and once again prove their status as some of the most sought after performers in the industry. The film's storyline was crafted in such a unique and powerful manner that I felt attached to its characters. I felt both Walter and Lance progress as their arches came into each other to learn valuable lessons of teamwork and killing with kindness. I especially found myself warmed with the theme of using good to fight bad, specifically in this political climate with such strong global tensions, it was nice to feel like there might be some good out there. The animation in this film was out of the world, it had a sense of abstract realism involved, and although the studio keeps its integrity and style one can still notice the progression. You might recognize Blue Sky's Studios from such notable films as Ice Age, Rio, and Robots. I can honestly say that this film had it all for me, the colors, the characters, the acting, the animation, all of it came together and complemented each other like a dog with a dinosaur bone in its mouth. If you are looking for a feelgood family movie night at home, look no further because Spies In Disguise is the film you're looking for.
