The Score. Netflix. 4/10

Directed by Frank Oz, The Score follows the story of an experienced burglar and his attempt to pull off one last gig for good in the hopes to finally be able to retire with the help of a younger protege. This picture has an abundance of star power with some of the greatest actors from the last three generations to ever grace the light from the silver screen. Robert DeNiro, Marlon Brando, and Ed Norton. The power in this movie, however, seems to fail in being able to capture the pure enthusiasm of audiences and people alike. What we find when being presented with a credit sequence is a lack of substance and an excess of forgettable scenes which one might recall as an 'Oh yeah! That happened" moment. The acting provided by the three actors as one would imagine is the complete essence of the film and it's the only pillar to avoid this picture getting a rating of less than 3. To be honest, I had never heard of this film before in my 20 years of obsessing over any bit of film reel. I hadn't even found it to be in any of these extraordinary actors filmographies, and after watching it it's clear as to why. This film lacks even a single drop in any sort of excitement, from the story to character arcs, there's not much to be able to take from this film viewing experience. It could be fair enough to say that director Frank Oz proved evidently that his competence as an established actor was unable to be translated into directing. His scenes were just plain boring. It seemed that there was absolutely no creative mission throughout the pre-production, the sets were dull and lifeless, the costumes were predictable, and even the lighting could put a sugar rushed child to sleep. This film was unamusing and although one could argue that during the climax one might have been put to the edge on a stress-induced scene, one could also argue that a climax scene without a bit of stress is a failed climax scene. Watch it if you're easily entertained, or don't either way, you won't get anything out of it. A proper title for the movie would have been The Bore.
